Bible Passage: Psalm 139; Hebrews 4:11-13

This psalm celebrates God’s knowledge of us and encourages us to allow God to examine and direct our lives

I. God knows me completely (verses 1-6)

a. In both the private and public life
b. This knowledge involves encouragement and restraint
c. It evokes a sense of amazement

II. God is always with the me (verses 7-12)

a. God’s presence is actually inescapable
b. Could be to guide action or to prevent movement
c. God is not hindered by whatever hinders us

III. God directs my life (verses 13-18)

a. God’s presence in darkness is seen in my creation in the womb
b. God has determined my course of life from birth to death
c. This knowledge elicits worship, which ultimately is the purpose of life

IV. I yield to God’s verdict (verses 19-24)

a. God’s all-knowledge, presence, and power must result in judgment to His enemies (who are God’s enemies)
b. How should believers live in the midst of unbelievers? Love them, pray for them, confront wrongdoing, lead them to Christ
c. An appropriate response to the knowledge, presence, and power of God – complete transparency and wholehearted consecration

V. Hebrews 4:11-13 – The Gospel message shows us our need to stand honestly before God in a relationship of unlimited grace
