Luke 2:9-11

Luke 2:9-11

Series: Christmas 2018
Sermon: Jesus the Savior: God’s Gift to the Broken People
Bible Passage: Luke 2:9-11

I. The Angel came to the shepherds in the filed:

1. Shepherds in the first century were considered outside of the law because of their dishonesty (b. Sanhedrin 25b)
2. Their testimony was not valid for any public decisions (b. Sanhedrin 25b)
3. Why is it a “good news”?
4. This looks like “a kind of” foreshadowing of God’s grace to sinners

II. It is a “good news” because God has given to them (sinners) a Savior

III. The word “Savior” carries four shades of meaning

1. Helper
2. Rescuer
3. God
4. God’s agent of salvation

IV. This “Savior” is none other than the “Messiah” (verse 11, Micah 5:2)

V. This “Savior” is the “Lord” (verse 11)
