Sermon: Pay Attention to God’s Interest
Series: Gospel-Applied
Bible Passage: Haggai 1:1-15; Eph 2:20-22

I. YHWH’s displeasure towards the people of Judah (vv. 2-9)

1. They ignored the purpose of their coming to Jerusalem, i.e., to rebuild the Temple
2. They neglected YHWH’s priority by giving importance to their personal interests
3. They gave several excuses, not realizing the relationship between their neglect and predicaments
4. They disrespected the LORD by neglecting the building work leaving the Lord’s house incomplete (cf. verse 9)

II. YHWH’s instruction to the people of Judah

1. Their predicament was a direct consequence of their spiritual negligence
2. Their spiritual wellbeing is not based on their economic wellbeing, but their economic wellbeing is based on their spiritual wellbeing
3. Their better days are dependent on the choice of their priorities

III. The response of the people of Judah

1. Obeyed (verse 12)
2. Began to respect (verse 12)
3. Came and worked on the Temple (verse 14)

IV. God, who used the people of Judah to rebuild His house, is building House Himself (Eph 2:20-22)

1. Jesus is the cornerstone
2. Early Apostles and prophets are the foundation
3. The believers are the members of the household
4. God dwells through the Holy Spirit of God
