Security of a Believer

Bible Passage: Romans 8:31-32; 12:1-2

1. With the expression “What then shall we say about these things?” Paul concludes the section 1:1-8:29—(“these things)
(a) Justification
(b) Sanctification
(c) Sin, death, self, and the Law

2. No one (nothing) can undo what God has done to the believers through Jesus Christ (verse 31b), because there is no one (nothing) above God

3. God works unquestionably for the interest of the believer (verse 32-33)

(a) Greatest act of giving Father’s own Son is an evidence to His acceptance of a believer (God has placed significant worth or importance on the believers)
(b) All other blessings like forgiveness, holiness, and continuous acceptance of a believer before Him are subordinate to what He has already done through His Son
(c) God will not withhold them because giving Jesus Christ is the pattern of God’s giving—when He gives the best, how much more will the small ones!
(d) There is no one bigger than God the Father who is the final authority to justify
(e) When God has justified a believer, no one and nothing in this world can bring accusation against him/her

4. Jesus continues to be the mediator to facilitate a believer to be in relationship with the Father (verse 34-39)

(a) No one is able to bring condemnation against a believer because Jesus’ death, burial, resurrection and exaltation continues to take care of believers’ flaws—penalty for the past, present, and future is taken care by the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus
(b) Jesus is the perpetual intercessor for the believers (verse 34)
(c) No one (nothing) will be able to sever Jesus’ love for His people from His people [“love of Christ” is a subjective genitive] (verse 35)
(d) No other life circumstances will be able to sever Jesus’ love for His people from His people (36-39)
(e) Whatever power these forces may have, God’s love and favor is stronger (36-39)
