Sermon: Beyond The Basics – Knowledge of the Will of God – Children
Bible Passage: Colossians 1: 9-10 & 3:20

1. “Will of God” with regard to children is that they “honor” their parents

(a) Exodus 20:12 “Honor your father and your mother, that you may live a long time in the land the Lord your God is giving to you
(a1) Honor
– Accept the role of their parents in their lives
– Respect
– Love them
– Not talk back at them
– Not doing things in secret
– God appointed parents to be His stewards with regard to children
– They work on His behalf

2. Children’s relationship with their parents must be “pleasing” to the Lord (Colossians 3:20)

(a) Happy
(b) Acceptable
(c) Satisfaction
(d) (Not taking advantage of them)
(e) (Not belittling them)

Take Away

“Obey” your parents to please the Lord
– Sympathetic hearing and taking heed
– Listen to advice
– Submit/obey
