Bible Passage: Psalm 124
I. Background
II. Four metaphors explain the gruesome nature of the enemy’s attack (verse 1-2)
1. A monster (verse 3)
a. Capable of swallowed people alive
b. Full of anger
2. Raging torrent of flood water (verse 4)
a. Overpowered
b. Overwhelmed
3. A wild beast that stalks its prey (verse 6)
4. A snare of a fowler (verse 7)
III. In the midst of their situation, the LORD was with them (verses 1-2)
1. Protection from complete annihilation (verse 3)
2. Protection from being overpowered and overwhelmed (verse 4)
3. Protection from being devoured (verse 5)
4. Helped them escape the snare of the enemy (verse 7)
5. Delivered them and brought them out of dangers (verse 7)—freedom
IV. Theology of the passage
The LORD is stronger than all enemies who threaten His people—who created heaven and earth
