Bible Passage: John 1:1-18

I. Jesus before the Incarnation:

1. Existed before time (v. 1)—Eternal
2. Was/is in close reciprocal communion with God (v. 1)—the Second Person in Trinity
3. In His nature, Jesus and God the Father share the same substance (vv.1-2)—God Himself
4. Was the instrument and agent in creation (v. 2)—Co-creator along with the Father and the Holy Spirit
5. Is the source of life—“Life” itself (v. 4)—Fountain of Life

II. Jesus at/after incarnation:

1. Perpetual bringer of God’s presence (v. 14; Exod 40:34-38, Ezek 37:27; Rev 21:3)
2. A guide of humanity (v. 14, cf. Exod 40:34-38)
3. Dispeller of darkness (verse 5)
4. Bringer of grace and truth (v. 14, 16, &17)
5. Visible presence of the Father (v. 14 & 18)
6. Channel by which one becomes a child of God (vv.12-13)
