Resurrection of the Dead

Bible Passage: 1 Corinthians 15

I. Corinthian skepticism

1. No resurrection of the dead (15:12)
2. How are the dead raised? With what kind of body will they come? (15:35)

II. Jesus’ resurrection is integral part of the Gospel (15:1-4)

1. “Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures”
2. “was buried”
3. “was raised from the dead on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures”

III. Resurrected Jesus was seen by many people (15:5-11)

1. Cephas
2. The Twelve
3. Five Hundred men who were alive at the time of Paul writing the epistles
4. James, Jesus’ brother, and to all other disciples
5. Apostle Paul
6. (Resurrection of Jesus from the dead is firmly confirmed)

IV. Jesus is the first fruit (15:20)

1. Bikurim (Exod 23:16, 19)
2. The pledge of the remainder
3. Assurance of full harvest
4. First instalment that signifies the full
5. First fruit represents what is to come
6. What happened to Jesus in the grave will happen to believers- (15:21)
a. Death came through a man (Adam)
b. The resurrection of the dead also came through a man (Jesus)
V. The order of resurrection (15:23)

1. Christ
2. Those who are now dead as believers
3. Those who are alive

Conclusion #1:

1. Just as Jesus was raised from the dead, believers will certainly be raised
2. Believers who are alive will be transformed
3. Believers who are dead do not have a disadvantage or believers who are alive do not have any advantage
4. Dead will be raised and those who are alive will be transformed

VI. Resurrected body will be different from the physical body

1. The resurrected body is imperishable (15:42)
2. The resurrected body will be with glory and honor (15:43)
3. It is a spiritual body (15:44-45)
4. It is a spiritual body with heavenly image (15:47-49)
5. The resurrection of man is the final blow to death (15:4-56)

Conclusion #2:

The body of weakness, made of earth will be changed to imperishable body
Death will be defeated ones and for all
