Help Children Come to Jesus

Bible Passage: Deuteronomy 6:1-9 & Luke 18:15-17

I. The LORD lists three important blessings parents generally desire for them and their children (verses 1-3)

1. Long life (verse 2)
2. Prosperity (verse 3)
3. Success (verse 3)

II. The LORD promises these blessings to them and their descendants when the parents take care of their covenantal responsibilities

1. Parents must become students of the Word of the LORD (verse 6)
2. They [parents] must teach the Word of the LORD to their children and grandchildren (verse 7)
a. Impress
b. Talk about the Word of the LORD constantly
c. Make sure that their covenant relationship with the LORD is the central to their existence (verses 8-9)

III. In Luke 18:15-17, Jesus addresses the parents, his disciples, and the onlookers

1. Jesus says, “Let the little children come to me” and “do not hinder them” (verse 16)
2. With this firm admonition, Jesus demonstrates that He is an Advocate for children
3. Jesus tells that children receive Him and His message of the Kingdom a lot faster and easier than the adults
4. Therefore, the adults must not put hindrances on their way to Jesus

1. Develop a family prayer and study time
2. Send them to a strong Bible based church
