Bible Passage: Romans 8:31-39
This passage is a triumphant declaration of God’s provisions for Christians that enable us to live confidently for Christ despite various forms of opposition
I. God’s generous provisions give us endurance in opposition (8:31-32)
1. “God is for us” who love God and are called according to His purpose (8:28-30)
2. Opposition does exist, but it does not finally succeed
3. Since the Father has given His best (Jesus), He will graciously give what we require to live for His purposes
II. God’s election and Christ’s work deliver us from guilt (8:33-34)
1. Believers are called “God’s elect” in Romans 8:33. God chose us, knowing our weakness and frailties
2. “God is the justifier” is an emphatic declaration in the face of the accuser
3. Some cautions in dealing with accusation
4. Our present hope is in Christ’s finished work and ongoing intercession. There are four descriptions of Jesus’ work and exaltation that strengthen us
III. God’s love for believers makes Christ bigger than our hardships (8:35-39)
1. Extreme hardships are no match for Christ’s love. Paul himself is an example of this
2. Psalm 44:22 reinforces this understanding that God’s people can suffer despite living faithfully
3. We have a guaranteed victory – not in our own strength but in the strength of Jesus Christ
4. “I am convinced” – Gospel truths need to be deeply rooted in our thinking and become a settled confidence
Take away
Take steps to grow in the knowledge of God’s love for you and boldly live for Jesus despite hindrances
