Sermon: Noah, Preaching Despite The Odds
Bible Passage: Hebrews 11:1-3, 6-7; Genesis 6:7-14; 2 Peter 2:5, 9

1. What is Faith? What does it do?

(a) What is Faith? (Hebrew 11:1): “It is the confident assurance that what we hope for is going to happen. It is the evidence of things we cannot yet see.” (NLT)
(b) What does it do? (Hebrew 11:3): “By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible

2. The Faith of Noah (Hebrew 11:7; Genesis 5-9)

(a) What had hurt God? Why? The corruption of human life had reached its depths, and God’s righteous/holy nature could not turn a blind eye to it.
(b) Who was Noah?
(b1) From the line of Seth, son of Lamech, great grandson of Enoch and grandson of Methuselah (Genesis 5)
(b2) A Family of 5, going on to become 8 (Genesis 6)
(c) What about him? A righteous man, blameless and faithful (Genesis 6)
(d) What did he do? Noah did everything just as God commanded him (Genesis 6:22, 7:5, 9b, 16b)
(e) How did he become an heir of God’s righteousness? He believed that God’s judgement would come upon the earth as he had intended, as a result, in reverent obedience, he built the ark enduring hardships despite the odds.

3. The Christ in Noah

(a) Sin still pervaded humanity, and there was the need of the cross (Genesis 8:20-22)
(b) Salvation through Christ’s work on the Cross is full and complete (Hebrew 5:7-10)
(c) God’s judgement of sinful humanity is to come (Hebrew 12:25-29)

Takeaway

Don’t wait for a convenient time to exercise your Faith
